About this project

For Marjan van Aubel, WAUD produced and assembled RA, a self-powered illuminated solar tapestry, in two variants: one for the permanent collection at Centre Pompidou and one for Dutch Design Week 2025. Kelvin Godee contributed to the project and concept/design. WAUD developed the new housing and sub-casing, 3D-printed parts, custom PCB and aluminium framing, and assembled both works to museum standard.

Challenge. Translate an artist-led solar tapestry into two finished works that meet the physical requirements of a permanent museum collection and a major design exhibition.

Approach. WAUD developed a new housing and sub-casing around the solar textile, integrating the illuminated form without changing Marjan van Aubel's artistic direction.

Development. The build combined custom PCB development, 3D-printed parts, aluminium framing and final assembly. Kelvin Godee contributed to the project and concept/design.

Outcome. Two RA variants were completed: one for the permanent collection of Centre Pompidou and one for Dutch Design Week 2025.
